Abstract
After the contest of Navarre in 1512, the kingdom went on to become one of the strategic points in the defence of tile and the monarchy against France. This meant that Navarre was to have various plans for the construction of fortresses and that it would simultaneously also have important military contingents. Navarran society collaborated in the defence both internally and in terms of participation in armies that campaigned in Europe, and experienced considerable tensions due to the not always easy relations between soldiers and population, but also because of the consequences that certain political positions had on their statutes (fueros).
