Abstract
This article addresses the legal status of women in the historical private law of Vasconia, exploring the relationship between legal norms and social dynamics from the early Middle Ages to the 19th century. Through the analysis of legal, historiographical and bibliographical sources, female legal representation in areas such as matrimonial property, inheritance and property is assessed. Distinctive characteristics of Basque law are identified, such as gender egalitarianism in certain contexts. The paper also reflects on the contributions and limitations of the existing historiography, proposing new lines of research to overcome current gaps and enrich the understanding of Basque legal institutions from a gender perspective.
