Abstract
The concept of a dowry tends to be associated with a woman who is to be married. This assertion is rooted in popular imagination and many historical European legal systems reflect this. Nevertheless, we cannot speak of unanimity, as Bizkaia law offered a different legal scenario: husbands provided a dowry, while wives ran the house. As such, this Basque legal peculiarity will proceed to be analysed throughout the following pages.
