Abstract
Native Basque ownership is original. Supported by the feminine gender, the historical figure of Pyrenean institutions is in opposition to all aspects of the masculine model of absolutist and patriarchal Napoleonic ownership. For more than two centuries in the French Province of Labourd, local customs have protected this communal institution against the ownership of the Civil Code. Today, can such collective resistance inspire another modern model of ownership with greater solidarity that is more sustainable and environmentally-friendly?
