Abstract
The aim of this paper is to analyse the Sumario de la otaba partida de los hechos y hazañas de los hijosdalgo guipuzcoanos (“Notes on the eighth part of the deeds and exploits of Gipuzkoan nobles”), written by the commander Ochoa Álvarez de Isasaga around 1529. Specifically, it will analyse how the text proposes a review of Gipuzkoa’s late medieval past in accordance with the expectations of Gipuzkoan patricians at the beginning of the 16th century and, ultimately, how it presents Gipuzkoa as a community of noblemen capable of defending the monarchy’s borders
