Abstract

The first pieces of research carried out in the archives of Popes Pius XI (1922-1939) and Pius XII (1939-1958), opened for consultation respectively in 2006 and 2020, demonstrate the importance of Vatican sources when assessing the role played by the Catholic Church in the recent history of the Basque Country. This piece presents some contributions in this regard and notes some possible avenues of research.
