Abstract

Since 1946, the Basque Country has forged a unique relationship with UNESCO, standing out for its cultural, educational, and environmental diplomacy. The Basque Country has promoted human rights and sustainable development both locally and internationally through collaboration between public institutions and social organisations like UN Etxea and through the establishment of pioneering agreements. The region’s commitment to the 2030 Agenda and the designation of Bilbao as the place for the Local2030 Coalition Secretariat help to consolidate its role as an exemplary global leader in terms of multilateral cooperation from the local level.
