Abstract
In a state of anguish stemming from the progress of the War of the Pyrenees, Secretary of State «Godoy» promoted several attempts at negotiation, whose ambitions declined as time passed, leading to the signing of a Peace Treaty on 22 July 1795 in the Swiss city of Basel. The King rewarded Godoy for his management (although Spain did not achieve any of its ambitions, being pushed into the
shadows internationally) and all the ills were blamed on others, including the Basque Provinces.
