Abstract

Based on the main sectoral classifications proposed in the literature, this study attempts to define the scope of sport in Gipuzkoa. To do so, sport has been divided into three sectors: the first sector or public sector, the second sector or business and professional sector, and the third sector, also known as the sports movement or the associative private sector. This report places the organizations that make up federated sport in Gipuzkoa within the latter. Special attention is given to these organizations, focusing on their structure, the ways they are financed through public subsidies, and their importance within the region. The study combines a descriptive and exploratory methodology, integrating both quantitative and qualitative data, and is based on institutional sources and public databases such as Eustat, KirolData, and GeoEuskadi to identify and categorize stakeholders across the three sectors of sport.
