Abstract

All throught his long and successful career, the British film producer David Puttnam has been recognised for "imprinting" a specific style in his movies, in a way that critics talk about "Puttnam's movies" when this expression is not very commonly applied to producers. The reference to historical facts is one of his filmography's thematic keys. For Puttnam, History is a source of events where human being is committed to give the best of him or herself. In this sense, Puttnam's films offer an epic dimension and can be defined as humanist cinema based on historical facts.
