Abstract

This paper is an attempt to summarize the recurrent themes of Nazi films: the Stormtroopers fighting for the conquest of the State (in fact, a short-lived genre); the cult to the leader (not directly the actual Führer but historical characters like Frederick the Great or Bismarck, or fictional ones); Germany's friends and foes (the first ones, curiously more Americans than Italian or Japanese); the "enemies of the World", i.e., Jews and Slavic Communists, and, finally, Goebbels' pièce de résistance, the large bulk of entertainment movies like the Zarah Leander melodramas, Marika Rökk musical extravaganzas and the UFA-Jubilaeum spectacular Münnchhausen.
