Abstract

This article deals with the socio-economic and political influence of the evolution of the Basque society on the clergy of Bilbao between 1931 and the fifties. It analyses the role of the priets and provides an explantaion as to why they were so affected by the changes that took place during the period in the Bassque Country. The author argues that the clergy of Bilbao were at times the victim of change, but that they were also able to take advantage of the evolution of the Basque society. He thus underlines the strong link connection existing between the priets and the environment in whic they lived.
