Abstract

Many private companies contributed to the construction of the francoist monument of the Valley of the Fallen. Among them, the most well known ones were San Román, Banús or Huarte. The case of Manuel Rodríguez Crisogno’s company has been so far overlooked, even though he was one of the main beneficiaries of the project. Rodríguez, the only foreigner amongst the contractors, intervened in the construction of the main façade of the crypt, as well as in other minor works throughout a seven years period. During that time, he used forced laborers and profited from the corruption that was common during the construction of the monument.
