Abstract
After outlining the similarities and differences between the role of ALDEZLE at the UPV/EHU —the person appointed by the university court to ensure that the rights of all members of the UPV/EHU are upheld— and the municipal tax appeal boards, this paper assesses the contributions made by institutions dedicated to the defence of rights before the authorities, both for the public and for the authorities themselves. It concludes that not only do these institutions make highly valuable contributions, but value must be attached to their work if it is really to come to full fruition.
