Abstract
This article seeks to provide an in-depth analysis of the existing relationship between the employment-citizenship pairing and its evolution over recent decades, understanding employment as being the gateway and guarantor of citizens' rights, particularly from a social viewpoint. In light of this situation, three responses seem to arise. The first involves maintaining the employment-citizenship relationship as it is, supporting employment as the guarantor of the second part of the pairing. The second option discusses the remodelling of the framework of labour relations to ensure it adapts to new social and economic times and dynamics, particularly based on the model of flexi-security. The third proposal is that of the Basic Citizen's Income that, in short, proposes a more or less partial disassociation of the employment-citizenship relationship. Although these three options may seem opposing and mutually excluding, a shared and common reflection of these options may help continued progress around this debate.
