Abstract

This article presents two concepts used by different social agents to counter the socio-ecological crisis. For several decades the corporate world, specifically multinational corporations, and social movements such as ecologist, feminist, indigenous, agricultural, unionist and internationalist have been dialectically opposed with conflicting strategies using different concepts and messages to refer to a common factor: The social and environmental deterioration of life on the planet. The article specifically addresses the confrontational dynamics emerging primarily from the use of so-called Corporate Social Responsibility as well as ecological debt. The question is not a trivial one, as we can see that both concepts have similarities and differences. On some important aspects of human life such as the energy question, two threads of arguments are represented of a socio-political conflict that is on the rise.
