Abstract
The lack of economic dependence allows for equal relations, but employment is fundamental to access to life. In the Basque Autonomous Community and in the Foral Community of Navarre, although state aid guarantees income, it is essential to have paid work for women. This contribution analyzes gender inequalities in Basque households, comparing situations on both sides of the border. The economic possibilities of women and men and their social impact have been qualitatively analyzed. The objective is to make visible the collective well-being and the influence of state regimes on the family. Furthermore, it is underlined that the welfare of women cannot be differentiated from welfare regimes. So the question is: do women live better in Hegoalde or in Iparralde? Consequently, the recognition and the political value of the work of care is demanded and the responsibility of the institutions and political parties is emphasized, presenting concrete proposals.
