Abstract

Spain finds itself in an exceptional situation in which the expectations for equality between men and women are greater than those existing at any other time in history and those in most of the countries around us. It is now that the model for the incorporation of women into the labour market is being decided and, therefore, the discussion regarding what the focus of the public policies should be is pending. In this article, we defend that, in order to make a determined effort to achieve gender equality in the labour market, it is necessary to introduce reforms in the employment and social policies which will set us on the road towards a model of «supporters/carers in equality», replacing the current model of «masculine supporter/dependent wife», in accordance with that which is still legislated.
