Abstract
This work attempts to illustrate from a critical standpoint and from the gender perspective how Act 20.545 «modifies regulations governing maternity protection and incorporates post-natal parental leave.» This refers to those who indirectly end up reinforcing existing gender roles in Chilean society and discourage the contracting of women on the job market, especially in the case of those jobs that demand major responsibility and require more skills. Thus, it will be explained in details how a regulation that refers to the protection of the reproduction process may end up being detrimental —in the medium term— to women's participation in those areas which they still have yet to conquer.
