Abstract

Workers co-operation is basic to improve productivity. Pure individual instrumental rationality is not able to understand this phenomenon, like no others such as the strike or labour organisation, which in the same way become misunderstanding if they are taken as individual benefits. "Communicational rationality" (Habermans) which allows the co-ordination of action due to ethic and moral rules, makes this paradoxical phenomenon much more easier to understand. The almost military organisation established in the first capitalist factories was not enough to ensure the co-operation of workers. Some big industry men tried to reach the integration of workers through paternalist methods. These methods once modified and under diverse forms still exist in the fordist regime. The neo-liberal enterprise, assuming financial market pressure, goes close to the despotic regime and goes versus the contradiction of requiring the co-operation of workers, but without tolerating the conditioning equilibrium.
