Abstract
The reform of the retirement pension introduced by Law 27/2011, apart from some aspects which appear positive, will have a negative effect on most of society, though it will affect women above all. The conditions of eligibility for a pension will be tightened, the amount of the pension will be reduced for most employees, the groups with the most gaps in their contributions will be penalised and the amount of supplements will be restricted to a minimum. Moreover, it is unlikely that this pension system can be financed in the medium and long term solely with current contributions, so new revenue will have to be sought, by improving the Reserve Fund (paid for by those currently working), increasing contribution rates and/or general taxation paid for by those working when the expense rises), or in the last resort falling back on debt (paid for by subsequent generations).
