Abstract
The aim of the work provided below is to show the current and future capacity of social security pensions in order to meet the needs of retired persons, and to look into the possibilities of certain complementary saving-financing schemes such as property assets, so that an individual may lead their everyday life with a similar degree of satisfaction to the one they had been enjoying prior to reaching retirement age.
We have structured the study in two parts. The first shows the need to increase social security coverage and the second attempts to justify whether, in view of the surveys, statistics and reports scrutinized, the purchasing power of retired persons would be significantly improved if property assets were to be converted into pension contributions.
To this end, the real situation regarding average retirement benefits in our country will be studied together with what is offered on the Spanish market at the present time, by way of compensation to property ownership.
