Abstract

This article compares two understandings of the concept of "translation" as used for the definition of the work of the curator. The first one deals with translation as an alternative to interpretation, focusing on the work of art itself and leaving in a second level of importance ideas of context and publics; instead, the second one takes a departure point the fact that those contexts the work comes point the fact that those contexts the work comes from and the publics it is addressed to are an intrinsic and essential part of the translation itself, thus coming closer to the idea of mediation.
