Abstract

Prometheus appears as a perfect model to make the Jorge Oteiza's aesthetics pursuits possible. His search is going to be particularly developed around the latest years of his sculptorical practice. Between human and divine power, Prometheus, symbol of unity, will join all the human polarities. The Oteiza's intention of generating an empty place inside the sculpture explains his phenomenological view of the world. Owing to this original exploration of space, Oteiza achieves a spiritual enlightenment as we can see in Prometheus. This paper analyzes this work from beginning to end in order to understand its anthropological and mythical roots.
