Abstract

This article examines the traditional culture of work,
universalist and uniforming, in order to move toward a
conceptual framework which considers the variety of
social experiences and interpretations of work in our
actual changing times. Changes of the labour market
and new interpretative approaches are emphasized, for
less restrictive definitions of work are required. Thus
subject reflections on labour are considered as
situated in the interconnecting space between
relationships and structures. The variety of social
dynamics caused by and around work, is more visible in
the western urban context, consequently, studying
them offers a possibility to appreciate different ways
of constructing and living the city.
