Abstract

The starting point for this paper is an investigation about the meaning of employment as a cognitive category. Unlike whom defines it as a remunerated activity that is developed in the market, putting the employment on a level with work, we maintain here that, moreover, the meaning of employment has a content of social rule (the employment is the wageearning work that is carried out/must be carried out with the respect to a basis for considered fair rules) and without this normative nature it would not have been reached its status as cognitive category. This way of thinking invites to interpret the employment as part of a hierarchical fabric of social rules in which acquires sense and value, and where establishes certain social order. If the employment understood as social rule is the transitory result of the relationship between classes and social groups, the same could be said of social order.
