Abstract
There's a popular trick used in the game of scholarly argument to draw the epistemological line between expert knowledge and vulgar acknowledgment. It consists in the metaphorical construction of the mythicalsacred figure of the extraterrestrial as an ideal type of the proficient scientist. Building on this conventional rhetoric, I plan here to inspect in detail the physical appeal of such a cherished science-fiction trope just to explore its ultimate limits as a research tool of the worlds of research. The study thus offers an original take on the present state of the social science global business constructed with recycled audio-visual materials of several sorts: movies and tv programs, visible and hidden camera, reality and fiction.
