Abstract

This work explores the situation of the Church in Valladolid during the years when the separation of church and state became law and there was no budgeted expenditures for paying worship and clergy. Thus, the maintenance of worship and the sustainment of clergy began to depend on civic collaboration.

In light of the many Spanish dioceses and the impact that the secularist legislation of the Second Republic necessarily had on them, we present a case study –the Archdiocesis of Valladolid– in order to analyse an alternative model of ecclesiastical financing since the end of 1931.
