Abstract

This article analyses the question of the permanent training in France. The system created in 1971, which is based on a legal obligation that incumbe to the employers and is structured in professional sectors, has allowed a notable development of the short formations that answer to the immediate needs of the companies, but it generates inequalities and does not open real perspectives of social promotion. The reforms happened during the 2000's, have proceeded to a few adjustments destined to democratize the access to the permanent training, but they have remained to half of way, so that a reform similar to the reform of 1971 is necessary nowadays.
