Abstract
The economic crisis that is raining down on the job markets contains certain features that make it differ from the other crises that have historically taken place. The article analyzes the causes of the economic recession from two different points of view: on the one hand, the influence of micro-decisions on the unfolding of the crisis is studied. Micro-decisions are decisions taken by individuals based on assumptions regarding risk and the future evolution of the economy. The aggregate of these micro-decisions gives rise to a system of beliefs with regard to the risk evolving over time. This subsystem of capitalism is one of the causes of the recession. Macro-policies are macro-economic policies pursued by monetary and state authorities. Their influence on the destruction of employment and the qualitative impoverishment of work is another of the main causes of the recession. The study is completed by an analysis of the theory of economic growth – in genuine contrast to the crisis theory and one which complements the latter.
