Abstract
The aim of this article is to show the relationship between corporations and human rights from an interdisciplinary perspective. Based on traditional corporate social responsibilities theories, the article considers the origins, developments, challenges and scope of corporate responsibility in terms of human rights. It focuses specifically on voluntary codes of conduct and the concept of "corporate due diligence", which has been introduced to offer ethical behaviour guidelines and avoid corporate implication in human rights abuses. The work concludes with a series of thoughts and recommendations for future investigations, with an emphasis on the need to conduct more systematic and empirical analyses on the role of multinational corporations operating in conflict zones and the effectiveness of the responses of these players in the private sector to minimise or mitigate the negative effects of their operations.
