Abstract
The European Agency for Health and Safety at Work is the European Union's institute in charge of gathering, coordinating and distributing any information relating to occupational health and safety among the members states and the media. In order to be able to efficiently carry out its work, the Agency has set up an information network between all the member states, whose basic communications network is the Internet.
The Agency has recently conducted a study into the state of occupational health and safety in the European Union, whose conclusions establish the framework to be used to plan prevention in Europe over the coming years. This indicates the concern for the changing workplace and the emerging risks, as well as for the need to adopt additional preventative measures for issues such as stress, vibration, manual handling of loads, handing of chemical substances or muscular-bone disorders.
The European authorities are very aware that occupational health and safety has to be included in any policy proposal in areas working towards sustainable economic growth, more and better jobs and greater social cohesion.
