Abstract
Psychological violence at the work place, without it being a newly discovered phenomenon yet being an international problem which has being taking place for many years now, is beginning to stand out in the new analysis models of health risks and employees' safety. Its economic repercussions have raised the alarm of this human drama. Despite all this, the investigations continue to be taking place practically solely in developing countries and it is where wide-scale measures are being carried out to tackle the problem: the introduction of specific laws or the alteration of rules, codes of good training in firms and administrations, anti-harassment clauses in collective agreements or in state and private entities rules, amongst other initiatives. This article focuses on the situation in the current fifteen state members of the European Union as well as the prevention role («avant-garde») that the European Community institutions have taken on this matter.
