Abstract
The importance of dissatisfaction with their body image as a variable to predict psychological imbalances and eating disorders makes it a priority target for psycho-social intervention programmes. One step prior to its implementation involves gaining knowledge of the situation among the target population and this is the objective of this work. This implies describing body image dissatisfaction within a group of adolescents and looking in greater depth at how this changes and is different for boys and girls. The sample was composed of 957 students from the Basque Country Autonomous Community who were administered a body dissatisfaction scale and asked for information on their current and ideal body mass index. The results show that women showed a greater level of body dissatisfaction than men and highlight a growing trend in body dissatisfaction values between 10 and 16 years old in the group of women in which maximum values were obtained in the 15-16 age range.
