Abstract

This paper sets out to report on the most significant milestones in applying Observational Methodology to Aucouturier Psychomotor Practice (APP); specifically, the devising of the observation tool, the field format for «Jumping in Psychomotor Education during the third year of life». There is dual complementarity between the two ambits: on the one hand, Observational Methodology is unique in its capacity to evaluate and explain and not merely describe the complex flow of infant psychomotor activity or psychomotor expressiveness; on the other, this expressiveness, which is the goal of APP, fulfils the optimum profile of Observational Methodology. One of the conditions imposed by the observational methodological process is the systematization of the tool for observation. What starts off as a system of categories in the observational proposal of APP itself, end ups being a dialectic field format of the psychomotor activity of jumping at the service of the initial aim of the research, which is to evaluate infant psychomotor behaviour.
