Abstract

In an Information Society, a person must be able to recognize when information is needed and have the competence to locate, evaluate, and use information effectively. In this way, citizens become prepared for lifelong learning, because they can always find the information needed for any task or decision at hand. This study was intended to describe how students search and find the information they need, particularly on the Internet. The study was carried out at Mondragon University (Basque Country). Quantitative data was collected using a questionnaire with information searching tasks and opinion items. Findings suggest that students search for information more than once a day. They think they are significantly better information searchers than is shown by the information searching task of the questionnaire. Students mainly use internet for information searching.
