Abstract
This article briefly reviews the first studies which have tackled the use of information and communication technologies and the use of the Internet in university teaching. It then presents the results from a diagnostic study carried out by the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) on this matter. The most interesting conclusions from this study are: The use of the Internet in the UPV/EHU is in line with other Universities in the country; the most frequently used Internet applications in higher education are those which generate consultations (as opposed to producing information); and differentiated practice was observed between those who use the Internet and those who do not in their teaching tasks which requires further research.
