Abstract

The article compiles the first educational experiments with mentally handicapped students in the Basque Country Autonomous Community. From 1960 onwards, a great many special education institutions were set up which will progressively close as the principles of school standardisation and integration are applied. This pays homage to the people who have created and contributed so much to the quality of life for a wide collective by making vast efforts with limited resources
