Abstract
Holland's theory of occupational personalities and working atmospheres is one of the most influential in current vocational psychology. The RIASEC model has been analysed and contrasted in a multitude of cultures and countries; however there has been no work done related to the Basque Country. This article describes the occupational preferences of the adolescent Basque population according to Holland's typology model. The preferences are described according to gender and level of education and the internal structure of the model is analysed using non metric multidimensional scaling technique. The results show the existence of gender-related differences in the Realistic, Artistic and Social typologies. Spatial representation of the RIASEC types fits to the hexagonal model, however the research profile is inverted as this is the configuration found by RASIEC.
