Abstract

This paper talks about the sense of the numbers appeared in traditional tales. For this aim, we have selected seventeen tales that agree, at least, with one of the following criteria: the tales must be known, they could have numbers in the title, or the tales must be written by different authors. We have elaborated a list with all the numbers appeared in those tales (with their own context), and we have studied their frequencies. The tale with more numbers is «The little mermaid», and the numbers more used (except 1, that not always expresses quantity or order) are 2, 3 and 100, in that order. This study finishes with an interpretation of each of these three numbers.
