Abstract

The two main objectives of this article are the following: firstly, the analysis of school failure from different points of view and the presentation of the facts which prompt this orientation. Secondly, to present proposals according to this point of view faced with the successful decrease in school failure in Spain. The analysis and interpretation of school failure is conducted using a model based on the following six levels: society, family, educational system, school, classroom teaching and pupil attitude. Throughout the text, the influence of the level will be analysed and some figures will be presented with a view to allowing some reflection. In view of these analyses sixteen proposals are presented which are summarised in six areas: attractive state schools, prevention of school failure, new ways of collaborating, help for the teachers, occasional intervention and social commitment.
