Abstract

The characterization of the concept of «the sublime» is analyzed, in its origin and during the XVIII century, clearly defining the hard core of the ideas that compose it and those others that, coming from a single author or being secondaries, were contouring its outline. Later, the relationship of this concept with the Stanley Kubrick film «2001: A Space Odyssey» (1968) is synthesized, showing that it is a cinematographic paradigm of «the sublime».
