Abstract
The historical evolution of video games has been traditionally described from the technological determinism ignoring its narrative evolution. The article analyzes what narrative transformations took place in the adventure video games between 1975 and 1998 and for it a methodological system is constructed, based on categories of the audio-visual narrative, and it is applied to a representative sample of every historical period. Finally, the results show a gradual displacement of the "player - character" to the "narrator - character" across the appearance of the graphical Avatar.
