Abstract
This article sets out to analyse the conception that Guy de Maupassant held of journalism and the pressman through his work as a reporter for different newspapers and magazines in France in the second half of the XIX century. In this context, we study the political ideas of the author of Bel Ami in order to determine what the relationship was between journalism and politics; this allows us to see that economic factors had become as important as ideological factors in the French press of the late XIX century.
