Abstract

This article analyses some of the transformations taking place today within the music industry following the appearance and spread of the new digital technologies, such as MP3 music players, DVD digital formats and basically Internet. Similarly, the analysis concentrates on the new strategies and business models that the big multinational record companies (the majors) are trying out on Internet, taking as a case study the operating model that the Apple company is developing with its iPod music player and its iTunes web platform, and including other web platforms, such as the one that the Napster company is at present developing.
