Abstract

The mass media system in the United States is frequently an object of analysis by researchers looking for new tendencies in the most influential media market of the planet, quite apart from the interest it olds in itself for experts in International Communication. This article concentrates not only on the US media system but also on the movement to reform that system that has emerged from within organised civil society in this country. The antecedents and the present situation of this movement are studied, presenting a classification of the type of organisations that form it, and conclusions are drawn from an analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of its present state.
