Abstract
The presented article is the result of extensive research carried out in 2002 on the situation of the radio in the Basque Country. In this study we looked into diverse topics such as programming content, ownership of the radio stations, their concentration within large media groups or the legislation which has regulated the granting of radiobroadcasting licences since the Statute of Guernica. This article focuses on the latter aspects: ownership, concentration and legislation until the passing of the controversial bill 53/2002, a complement to the General State Budget for 2003, by which autonomous powers to grant licences were restricted.
