Abstract

Within the specialized literature about the journalism genres, the reference to the letters to the editor has been commonly suppressed or they have been considered as a minor genre. For example, Yanes (2004) considers them a genre added to the journalism and therefore, unconnected with it. Vilamor, on the other hand, (s.f.) considers them as the only way to establish a communicative exchange between the readers and the press. Thus, in the present paper, the status of journalism genre of the letters to the editor will be discussed, checking and using the own authors' arguments that have theorized about the journalism genres.
