Abstract

The iconography about Bilbao is a compilation of a group of images constructed by different authors. Each author has contributed with his own creativity combining both, imagination (fiction) and reality. Their views have idealized the sceneries that passed in front of their eyes. Their choice of perspective has increased the beauty. In this article we will find what their criteria has considered more emblematic, that is to say, what distinguishes Bilbao from other cities. First, comes the coat of arms, then the geometry of the main city centre finally the details. From an elementary construction one passes to a more complex one, where dreams and vanities intermingle. Each artist constructs his own Eden where he pervades his feelings and his illusions. Spots composed to satisfy the authors (engravers, drawers and photographers), in their attempt to dazzle and captivate the spectator.
