Abstract

Isabel Coixet's La vida secreta de las palabras is a good example of the increase and acknowledgment of "Women's Cinema" as a melodramatic genre with its own voice in Spanish Cinema today. This essay tackles a thorough study of this film from the postulates of Feminist Film Theory to shore it up as a prime example of a genre marked by the renegotiation of the new conditions for women in Contemporary Melodrama.
